Furry Friday 5/25/12

Here is another edition of Furry Friday. Since I am helping a friend find a small dog to adopt, I decided to dedicate this edition to small dogs across the country looking for their forever home.

The first little furry friend for today is Angel from Delaware County SPCA in Media, PA. Angel is a 1-2 year old, pure bred, female,  Shih Tzu up for adoption.  She deserves a great home who will give her all the love and attention she deserves. For more information on Angel, please visit her post or the link for Delaware County SPCA above.

The next dog is Louie from For Pets Sake Inc. in Reno, NV. Louie is a 1 and a half year old, male, Wheaten Terrier / Lhasa Mix. His post states “he is a little shy at first, good with other dogs”. For more information, visit Louie’s post or For Pets Sake, Inc.

May is another 1-2 year old. She is a Maltese / Poodle mix from Friends of Animals, Inc. in Junction City, KS. She loves to play and is full of energy. If you want more information on May, please visit her post or click the Friends of Animals link above.

Aubrey is a Chihuahua, from Hardee Animal Rescue Team in Wauchula, FL. who is looking for a home. There is not much information given, but ,visit her post or Hardee Animal Rescue site to get info. on Aubrey.

The last dog for this edition of Furry Friday is Danyel, a senior, Poodle from Old Dog Haven in Fall City, WA.  She is a very mellow and sweet dog and is estimated to be over ten years old. For more information on Danyel, please visit her post or Old Dog Haven’s website.

Reminder: Furry Friday is in no way sponsored by any of the shelters or rescues featured, or Petfinder.com. It is simply my way of showcasing the many animals in need of adopting homes.

Furry Friday 5/11/12

It’s time for another edition of Furry Friday! We are going to stay in PA this week and highlight both dogs and cats.

The first animal is a sweet kitty named Perdie. She is located in Jim Thorpe, PA at Carbon County Friends of Animals Shelter. For more information on Perdie please visit her post.

The next kitty is Genie from Petmatchmaker in Trevorton, PA. Genie is munchkin cat. I’ve never heard of this breed, but her post says she has “short legs”. She is absolutely beautiful with distinct markings. Please visit her post for more information.

The third, and last kitty for the week is, Jinxie. She is another beautiful cat with some unique marks. She is located in Bloomsburg, PA at Animal Resource Center. Jinxie is a young cat with personality! Please visit her post for more information.

Now, onto the puppies. The first dog I’m going to feature today is X’s Nickolas. He is a retired racing greyhound located at Monica’s Heart Greyhound Rescue. I had the pleasure of meeting Nick at a dog walk where I was selling dog treats to benefit the Relay for Life. The handler asked me if we could test Nick with my dog, Buddy Boy, to see if he got along with medium sized dogs. Nick passed with flying colors. He loves other dogs and is such a sweet boy. I was thinking about adding him to our household BUT he does not get along with cats. So, if you are a cat free house and would love to have a greyhound check out Nick’s post. He is such a sweet boy!

The next dog is Abby. She is located at HIllside SPCA, Pottsville. Abby is a 7 year old poodle looking for a home. Please visit her post or contact Hillside for more information.

The last dog for this week is Weatherby. He is a black lab from Haven to Home Rescue in Winfield, PA. He is five years old and good with dogs, cats, and kids. He is a little overweight due to lack of attention and exercise but will slim down with proper nutrition and exercise. For more information on Weatherby, visit his post.

Reminder: Furry Friday is in no way sponsored by any of the shelters, rescues or Petfinder.com. It is simply my way of showcasing some of the many animals looking for their forever home.

Furry Friday on a Wednesday!

Since I’ve been slacking on the Furry Friday posts, I decided to post some animals today! I will be featuring both dogs and cats from around the United States. The first dog is Screetch a senior, female, Australian Shepherd from Casper, Wyoming. Screetch is visually impaired as stated in her post. She deserves the best home. For more information on Screetch, please visit her post.

The next puppy is Mario a young, male, Great Dane from Jefferson City, Mo. Mario is about 10 months old and is enrolled in the prison program. These types of programs pair dogs with an inmate who trains them and gives them the basic skills needed to become adopted. For more information on Mario, visit his post.

Shelby is a senior, male, husky / lab mix from Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Delhi, NY.  He has been at the shelter since 2008. He deserves the best home to live out his golden years.Visit his post here.

The last dog for this week is Amber, a female greyhound from Macon, GA. For more information on Amber visit her post. Due to her high prey drive, she should not go to a home with small animals or cats. She is a beautiful brindle Greyhound and has a lot of personality as stated in her post.

Now, onto the cats. This is Boomer. She is a female, domestic long haired kitty from Penacook, NH. She  is looking for a quiet home without dogs, according to her post.

The next cat is Kaitlyn, a tortoiseshell / domestic medium hair kitty from South Carolina. She is a spunky, adorable, little kitten looking for a great home. Visit her post for more information.

Our last kitty cat for the week is Snowflake, a pretty white cat from Killeen, Texas. She is at Killeen Animal Control. Visit their site for more information since her post doesn’t have anything listed.

If you are interested in any of the animals listed, visit their posts or any shelter listed. Reminder, Furry Friday is not in any way sponsored by any of the shelters, rescues, or Petfinder. It is my way of showcasing the many animals in need of adoption.

Furry Friday 3/9/12

Time for another edition of Furry Friday! To all my new fans, Furry Friday is a series of posts that occur every Friday highlighting some of the many dogs and cats available for adoption throughout the USA. Furry Friday is not sponsored by Petfinder, any shelter, or rescue, it is simply my way of getting the word out that there are many dogs and cats in need of a forever home. Hopefully, this will inspire some of my readers to adopt a furry friend.

Now, onto the featured animals this week. The first dog is Maximus from Great Falls Animal Shelter in Great Falls, Montana. He was turned in as a stray so, not much info is given on his post. He becomes available tomorrow if he is not claimed by his owner. So, if this is your dog, he is at Great Falls Animal Shelter. If not, he is looking for a forever home. So, go visit Maximus. He looks like a sweety.

The next dog is Bear. He is an Alaskan Malamute/Newfoundland mix puppy from Bunkie Animal Shelter in Bunkie, Louisiana.  This is going to be one big boy! Though puppies usually get adopted quickly, it is not the case in many high-kill shelters. I am not saying this is a high-kill shelter, just defending my reason for posting puppies in addition to older dogs. If you want more info on Bear visit his post.

The last dog for this week is Chompie from Humane Society of Central Arizona in Payson, AZ.  Chompie is a two year old terrier mix who was found as a stray. He is wary of strangers but is loyal to those he trusts. More information can be found in his post. He looks like a furry ball of energy and a fun friend!

Here is a cat for all you cat lovers out there. This is Connie from Delaware Humane Society in Delaware ,Ohio. She is six months old and already spayed. There is not much info in her post so, it would be best to contact the shelter for more information on Connie.

Hope you are now inspired to adopt a furry friend. For more information on any of the animals featured today, visit their posts or the shelter from which they temporarily reside.

Furry Friday

I’m so excited for the second edition of Furry Friday! In case you missed it, Furry Friday is a new series of posts that debuted last week. In these posts, I will be highlighting some of the dogs and cats throughout the country that are in need of homes. Like I said last week, Furry Friday is in no way sponsored by any of the shelters, rescues, or PetFinder. It’s simply my way of showing the world some of the animals that are looking for their forever home in hopes that some of my readers will be inspired to adopt a pet. Last week’s Furry Friday can be found here.

Look at those adorable ears!!

This week we are starting in Florida again with Hobo. He has the cutest, big, floppy ears I’ve ever seen. Thank goodness they didn’t name him Dumbo, that would have been cruel. His post states that he is a senior (meaning an older dog) but it also states he has energy and loves to play. He is said to have a sweet personality. He looks like he has the most adorable personality and I bet he’d be a sweet dog to have in your family. You can visit Hobo’s post here to get more information on this sweet fellow. He is at SPCA, Inc. in Lakeland, FL.

Next up is Smokey, a beautiful blue-eyed, cream colored kitty from H. Dale Buck Memorial Fund Inc. of Emporia, Kansas. Her post just states “she is spayed and feline leukemia negative. Good with other cats.” To find a shelter that does feline leukemia tests is rare, at least in my area. The test is $40 per cat and become extremely costly when you have hundreds of cats in shelter. This is a very important test, especially if you have other kitties in your house. You can find out more about feline leukemia  here. Thankfully, Smokie is feline leukemia negative.  It is a horrible disease. Visit PetFinder to take a look at Smokie’s other pictures. She is beautiful.

Brooks is another beautiful (well, he’s a boy so we’ll call him handsome) cat. He is at Angel’s Care Animal Resuce, Inc. in Little Rock, AR. His post states that “he is a large guy that may seem like he’s a bit gruff, but he is all lover.” He loves to play and be petted. Brooks seems like a sweet kitty to give a home. So, if you are near Little Rock, you can find him at Angel’s Care Animal Rescue.

Brooks

One more kitty for this Furry Friday. I feel like I need to shine the spotlight on the kitties throughout the US. since I’m going to highlight a few extra local dogs this week. Tyke is an adorable sweet Bengal mix from Casper, Wyoming. Her post doesn’t say much besides that “she is a another sweetie-pie, very  friendly, lovable, and likes other kitties. ” You can find out more about Tyke at Casper Cat Rescue.

Tyke

Now for an extra special treat this week. I’m going to highlight a few local dogs from two shelters I work with from time to time. The first dog is Shadow from Hillside SPCA in Pottsville. Shadow is a seven month old German Shephard Mix who was surrendered by his owner when they said “he was just too big.” Newsflash: German Shephards are big! Sorry, that was my sarcastic moment of the day. But, really, people’s excuses for giving up their animals never cease to amaze me. Shadow is still a pup so, I’m sure he has tons of energy. He looks like such a sweet boy and a dog worth visiting. Hillside has many, many more dogs and cats available for adoption and is truly a unique shelter. You should definietely visit Hillside if you are close enough to Pottsville, PA. The staff truly cares for the animals and limits their time in kennels by letting them wander around, inside and out (in fenced in areas, of course). This is not seen in many shelters.

Stella is another puppy from Hillside SPCA. She is a six month old pit bull mix who has a unique brown “eye-patch”. She looks like such a sweetheart. I can’t believe someone would leave her behind when they moved. Her post states “she can be shy at times till she gets to know you.” If you would like more information on Stella contact Hillside SPCA.                                                                                                                                                         I couldn’t pass up this sweet boy from PSPCA, Danville Branch. I have a soft spot for the northern breeds (i.e. Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Alaskan Eskimo, etc..) Harley is a one year old Malamute Mix that you will have to see in person. For more information on Harley, contact Danville PSPCA.

For more information on any of the animals featured on Furry Friday please contact the rescues listed with their write-up or click on each animal’s link.

Debut of Furry Friday

Sweet Toby from Echo Dogs White Shepard Rescue, Haines City, FL (currently in GA)

It’s here! The debut of my new series, Furry Friday. I am so excited to be able to feature dogs and cats throughout the country awaiting their forever home. Hopefully, I will inspire my readers to look into adopting a furry friend or volunteering at some of the amazing shelters and rescues that dedicate their time to saving animals.

Our first feature  is Toby from White Shepard Rescue in FL. He is currently in GA, at his vet’s, where he was dropped off to be euthanized. The vet persuaded the owner to surrender him and he has been at the vet’s office being cared for ever since. Thank goodness for the compassion of his veterinarian. Toby is heart worm positive, but currently receiving treatment. His story struck me because he is a 10 year old dog, that from his description, seems to have never been loved. Despite that, he has a sweet temperament and trusts humans. It never ceases to amaze me, the forgiving nature of animals. This dog was trained as a guard dog. Who knows what he went through in his life, but to trust humans again, and have a gentle nature, is simply amazing. This guy deserves the best home he can get. To read about Toby, or get more information, please visit his profile on Petfinder.

This little kitty caught my attention. She is another inspiring story. She is currently at Second Chance Animal Shelter in Killeen, TX. Melissa is a 6-7 year old  domestic short-hair female. She looks to me to be at least part, Tortoiseshell.  Her post describes her as “one of the friendliest cats you’ll ever meet”.  She had one eye surgically removed due to damage before arriving at the shelter, but this doesn’t stop her. For all that she has been through, it amazes me that she is described in her post as super friendly. She had damage to her eye but remains sweet, playful, and loving. Please visit Melissa’s profile on Petfinder for more info on this sweet kitty.

Look at that sweet puppy face.

Roscoe looks like such a sweetheart. I can’t get enough of his adorable face. His post says that he is less than 2 years old but has already had 3 or 4 homes. Poor buddy. Being bounced around so much, at such a young age, can be devastating. Despite moving frequently, he “has really thrived and his confidence has grown by leaps and bounds”. For more information on Roscoe look at his Petfinder profile or contact Pacific NW JRT Rescue in Snohomish, WA.

There are thousands and thousands of dogs and cats throughout the country who are looking for homes. It is impossible to feature each dog. Here is list of a few other furry friends: Tyson from North Dakota, Princess from Maine, Taffy from South Carolina, Simba from Tennessee, and Taz from Mississippi (URGENT).

I use petfinder.com to search shelters and rescues throughout the country for participants in Furry Friday.  This is my go-to resource for finding animals available for adoption throughout the country. We used this tool in many of the rescues I worked with to find good candidates to come into rescue. I’ll do a post about Petfinder next week.

If you are a shelter or rescue and would like to be featured, please contact me at: laurabellesboutique@hotmail.com Again, Furry Friday is in no way sponsored by petfinder or any shelter or rescue, it is simply my opinion and my way of showing support to all the thousands of pets awaiting their forever homes.
