Did you know that today is World Spay Day? World Spay Day is an event sponsored by the Humane Society to encourage owners to have their pets spayed or neutered. The month of February is spay/neuter awareness month and, in addition to World Spay Day, there are events going on all month long.
This is a great opportunity for people all over the world to join together for a common cause: saving animals lives. By spaying and neutering companion animals and feral animals alike, we in turn, are saving millions of lives from euthanasia in shelters or death on the streets.
Past and current events include: low/no cost spay and neuter clinics, low/no cost veterinary care, fundraising events for low/no cost spay and neuter clinics and educational events on the benefits of spaying and neutering your pet.
Many shelters, veterinarians, and other animal organizations are involved in events throughout the world for this special day (or I should say special month). To find an event in your area click here. There really are events everywhere, especially on the east coast.
So, if you haven’t already, get your pet spayed or neutered. It really is a life-saving operation and your pet will thank you. In addition to preventing unwanted pregnancies, spaying or neutering your pet can also prevent cancers and other diseases later in life. I can’t tell you how many times animals have come into the shelter with cancer and tumors that could have been prevented had they been spayed or neutered earlier on in life. Do your pet a favor and have them spayed or neutered!
